Summer, Lima

Summer is sunny, and fun, and more relaxed than the rest of the year, here in Lima.
Schools are out January-February, and many people leave town - or at least take time off.
The result is that traffic is far easier. And the city is much less crowded, with a calmer pace - especially on weekends.
Come March, the weather stays lovely, but school picks up again and people return to work. Traffic goes back to its usual anarchy.
But if you can leave the car behind and walk to the oceanfront - either up on the cliffside "malecone" or down along the beach, well, that's pretty darn nice.
The Costa Verde does look green on a sunny day.
Birds on wires, including 2 Nasca boobies, 1 cormorant, and 7 gulls
The municipality of Lima has done much to improve the beachfront, with walkways, parks, and sports facilities. So there are lots of families, surfers, sunbathers, and others who come take advantage of it.

The world standup paddleboard competition took place here recently. There were teams from Australia, South Africa, and the Americas. At first glance, it looks like they are walking on water.
This weekend there was an event called Ciclonudista along Avenida Arequipa to support bicycling and bicyclists. The municipality is trying to put in bike lanes, and some places (like Avenida Arequipa) are blocked to motor vehicles on Sunday. It's progress, but there's a long way to go to make this city bike friendly. In the meantime, these enthusiasts came out to show their support. The invitation was for a naked bike ride to draw attention to the cause. While we were there, no bums were bared (just as well for the riders considering how strong the sun was), but there were good costumes, more bare skin than usual,  and body art to keep things lively.
Remember, "cuy" or guinea pig is a favorite food delicacy
And that's all for today, folks...
